WHAT: The MediaLab at Queen’s University Belfast will launch a Department for the Economy (DfE) funded up-skilling part-time Postgraduate Certificate (PgCert), Introduction to Games Technologies, during an information event at Ormeau Baths.

The PgCert will allow students to understand the tools, technologies and processes which make virtual worldbuilding, design and creativity work together in creating 3D environments.The aim of the course is to provide students with the practical skills in game engine programming on platforms including Unity, Unreal and Blender. This addresses specific skills gaps across industry where expertise and experience of the opportunities afforded by these new media tools will become increasingly important.

The programme is opened to students from a wide range of employment and disciplinary backgrounds where the applications of these advanced media production technologies are becoming increasingly important.

The PgCert is funded by the DfE SKILL UP programme, with funding from the Northern Ireland Office and the Department of Finance, supporting free short courses to help employees re-train and re-skill. Places on the course are limited.

The information session will be an opportunity to find out more about the course, and anyone interested in applying for the course is welcome to attend. Refreshments will be provided.

Applicants must meet the entry criteria for the course and be:

  • over 18 years of age;
  • eligible to work in Northern Ireland;
  • settled in Northern Ireland, and has been ordinarily resident in the UK for at least three years; or
  • is a person who has indefinite leave to enter or remain in the UK.

The PgCert Introduction to Games Technologies will commence on 19 September 2023.
