Bank’s charity initiative raises £80,000 for Macmillan Cancer Support
Ulster Bank colleagues across Northern Ireland have raised over £80,000 for local cancer charity, MacMillan.
The money was collected during the bank’s annual One Week in October charity initiative which has chalked up more than £1million for local charities since its inception 10 years ago.
Teams from Macmillan joined bank staff at a special celebratory event where the final amount was revealed by Ulster Bank’s Head of Retail Banking, Terry Robb.
“I’m incredibly proud of all our colleagues who have worked so hard to raise this amazing total. A big thank-you also to all our customers who really dug deep to and supported our campaign which we know will make a genuine difference to Macmillan,” said Terry.
Throughout the month of October bank staff organised many different events and challenges, from traditional fundraising activities such as raffles and bake sales to more adventurous activities which included a silent disco, skydiving and ice-bucket challenges. Many events had a community focus with teams from across the Ulster Bank branch network taking part in a charity football match, organising litter picks and sponsored walks.
Thanking Ulster Bank for the tremendous contribution, Joanne Young from Macmillan Cancer Support said, “Through their fabulous hard work and commitment to Macmillan, Ulster Bank colleagues and customers will be helping to sustain and grow our services throughout Northern Ireland which is especially important at a time of financial hardship.
“Many people at Ulster Bank have experienced first-hand the support Macmillan provides, either through our support and information centres across NI or through our incredible team of Macmillan nurses and appreciate how valuable these services can be to individuals and families faced with a cancer diagnosis. This recognition has strengthened our partnership and we’re so grateful for the continued support and donations.”
