Energy company Flogas Ireland has invested £3.5 million in its LPG tanker fleet, with the purchase of 17 new vehicles, the transition of its entire fleet to run on Hydrotreated Vegetable Oil (HVO) and the installation of best-in-class diagnostic and tracking software for road safety. The fleet also holds the prestigious Truck Safe Gold Standard Award from the Freight Transport Association of Ireland, the only LPG provider to do so.

In addition, as the energy partner of Team Ireland for Paris 2024, the Flogas tanker fleet will carry the Team Ireland logo across the nation over the coming twelve months as a symbol of support for the dedicated athletes on their Olympic journey.

Collectively, the Flogas fleet of road tankers travels over 2.5 million km annually and the switch to HVO has reduced the fleet’s carbon emissions by up to 90%. Hydrotreated Vegetable Oil (HVO) is derived from renewable sources like vegetable oils and fats.

Kevin Donnelly, general manager, Flogas LPG said “The Gold Standard award is a testament to the rigorous training, maintenance, and operational protocols we have upheld to safeguard our drivers and the customers we serve. We couldn’t have achieved this milestone without the incredible dedication of our drivers and maintenance crew headed by Mick Dalton, our transport manager.”

The Truck Safe Gold Standard is a recognition given to business and commercial fleets that meet and exceed the highest industry-leading safety practices. The Freight Transport Association of Ireland (FTA) audits operational compliance in the areas of road safety, haulage operations, roadworthiness, working time and environmental efficiencies.

John Rooney, managing director, Flogas, said “Our multimillion investment in our tanker fleet and the switch to HVO marks our dedication to the highest standards of road safety and it is a significant milestone on our journey towards a more eco-conscious future and we are proud to be taking an industry leading position in this area. Congratulations to Mick Dalton and all our LPG transport team on the Gold Standard Truck Safety Award and for all their hard work and accomplishments to date.”

Flogas, part of DCC plc, employs 350 people with an energy portfolio of LPG, renewable electricity, natural gas, biogas, solar and related services for residential, SME and large commercial customers in ROI and Northern Ireland. Its business units include Clearpower, one of Ireland’s leading bioenergy companies, Budget Energy and Flogas Enterprise (formerly Naturgy Ireland).
