Mayor of Antrim and Newtownabbey Cllr Mark Cooper BEM recently visited Fast Engineering, a long-standing local business founded in 1981. Established by Seamus Connolly, this family-run micro-business boasts significant 25,000 sq. ft. premises in Antrim and provides patented engineering solutions all over the globe.
The company’s original brand FASTANK®, began its journey by aiding in natural disasters in collaboration with global organisations, notably the United Nations and Oxfam. Fast Engineering’s commitment to public safety and innovation led them to launch FASTASLEEP®, fire-resistant bedding designed for secure environments. Such inventive solutions have made Fast Engineering a trusted supplier for police, prison services and mental health organisations across the globe.
The company’s reputation for quality and resilience is not just domestic but global. With an impressive footprint that stretches from the United Arab Emirates, Israel, and Japan, to South Korea, Antarctica, and Australia, Fast Engineering’s products have resonated with a wide array of international clients. This year alone, the company has experienced an 85% surge in sales, largely attributed to the recent destructive forest fires.
In June 2023, the company was recognised by the UN Development Programme as well as the International Maritime Organisation for supporting an environmental and humanitarian issue as a result of a loaded oil super tanker in imminent danger of exploding off the coast of Yemen.
Recognising the company’s growth potential and its contribution to the local economy, Antrim and Newtownabbey Borough Council has committed to assist Fast Engineering in several pivotal areas. As the business continues its upward trajectory, the Council will provide vital support in digital innovation, recruitment strategies, and promoting the business to global audiences.
Mayor of Antrim and Newtownabbey, Councillor Mark Cooper commented,
“We are immensely proud of Fast Engineering and the work Seamus and the FASTEAM are doing all around the world. It is difficult to comprehend that this small business located within the Borough is helping millions of people all around the world, at their time of need. The company can be very proud of their record in supporting communities after earthquakes, floods, fires, hurricanes, chemical spills etc.
Their growth, innovation, and commitment to sustainability resonate with our core values. Collaborating with such businesses ensures that the Borough remains a hub of economic vitality and innovation.”
Managing Director of Fast Engineering, Seamus Connolly MBE commented,
“We were honored by the visit from the Mayor, Cllr Mark Cooper and the Council’s economic development team to share with them what we do worldwide. I applaud the work of Antrim and Newtownabbey Council in encouraging economic growth in the Borough. By promoting exports and encouraging tourism is the best way to grow Northern Ireland’s prosperity so that we afford the public services we desire.”
