To celebrate NI Environment Week 2024, a dedicated team from Barista Bar, Northern Ireland’s leading coffee-to-go brand, joined forces with Eco Rangers, Walk NI, and staff from EUROSPAR Victoria Road for their annual litter pick in Carrickfergus.
Together, the group cleared 10 bags of litter from residential areas around the store and throughout the town, reinforcing their commitment to keeping local communities clean and beautiful.
This year’s NI Environment Week, which ran from 21st – 28th October, focused on landscapes, nature and heritage and the value that these provide for local people.
Rachel Martin, Assistant Brand Manager from Henderson Foodservice, which owns Barista Bar, and who took part in the recent litter pick commented, “NI Environment Week helps showcase the amazing natural beauty that we’re so lucky to have here in Northern Ireland and encourages the people of NI to appreciate, and show care to, their local communities and beyond.
“Barista Bar is widely available in over 450 SPAR, EUROSPAR, ViVO and ViVOXTRA stores in Northern Ireland, many of which are often the hub of local communities that are residential, urban, by the sea and in areas of outstanding beauty, and we are committed to keeping these areas clean for all to enjoy them.”
The coffee to go brand has been an official partner of the Eco Rangers since 2021, fueling their volunteers with Barista Bar beverages during their litter picks throughout Northern Ireland.
The Eco Rangers are a volunteer-led local environmental group that collect an average of 300 bags of litter every month across the Mid and East Antrim area.
Barista Bar is committed to their shoppers and local communities. The brand has proudly sponsored Walk NI since 2021, hosting various community walking events that bring people together to enjoy the outdoors with their favourite coffee in hand.
These events not only foster community bonds but also encourage people to experience the natural beauty of Northern Ireland.
Barista Bar has committed to numerous litter picks throughout Northern Ireland, in efforts to reduce the number of single use cups that are not disposed of correctly. Rachel continued, “It is so important that we protect our local communities and beyond in any way we can. Our partnership with Eco Rangers and sponsorship of Walk NI, allows us to continue our mission of educating our shoppers about the effects of littering as well as ensuring the public can enjoy getting outdoors without rubbish getting in their way.
“We encourage our shoppers to dispose of their rubbish and single use cups responsibly and urge the use of our reusable Barista Bar cups so we can minimise our environmental impact as much as possible and continue to enjoy the beauty of Northern Ireland.”
As part of NI Environment Week, a series of events across Northern Ireland were held for the general public to get involved in, from a children’s Sperrins Art Competition, to an ‘Earth Rocks’ geology event in Kilbroney Forest Park and many more. For more information, visit www.landscapesni.org.
