Cancer Fund for Children is recruiting volunteer Trustees to join our Board.

Cancer treatment is frightening, challenging, and isolating and can devastate families emotionally, physically, and financially. For a diagnosed child, months of gruelling treatment and its side effects can impact their mental health, their education, and their friendships.

Cancer Fund for Children is an all-Ireland charity providing emotional support to children diagnosed with cancer. Our mission is simple – to help ensure no child faces cancer alone. We are implementing an ambitious multi-year strategy that will transform how children and their families are supported across the island of Ireland, ensuring everyone can access the support they need, regardless of where they live.

We are in a significant growth phase, providing direct support to children in every county of Ireland. Services are delivered by dedicated Cancer Support Specialists to children and young people while at home and in hospital. We also support families at our therapeutic short break centre, Daisy Lodge, in Newcastle, Co. Down. In 2024 we plan to commence construction of a second Daisy Lodge in Cong, Co. Mayo. This will give us the opportunity to offer free short breaks to every family living with a child with cancer in Ireland.

We are looking for enthusiastic, motivated Trustees to help us grow and realise our mission. Our new Trustees will have skills and expertise in the following areas:

  • Ability to lead and influence at Board level.
  • Have a commitment to the purpose, aims and mission of Cancer Fund for Children.
  • Be an active advocate and ambassador, with the ability to promote Cancer Fund for Children.

with individuals and companies that would add value and further develop the aims of the charity.

  • Knowledge and experience in some of the following areas:
  • Marketing and Brand Development
  • People, Culture and Human Resources
  • Strategic Financing
  • Corporate Governance
  • IT

As a Trustee you will have:

  • Induction and Training.
  • The opportunity to network with senior professionals.
  • The opportunity to influence and shape the innovative roll out of services across the island of Ireland including a transformative Capital Build Project.
  • The opportunity to transform how children with cancer are supported across Ireland.

How much time will it involve?

The expected time commitment will include six Trustee Board meetings a year (2 hrs), normally held online with two of them face to face in NI/ROI. Each Trustee is asked to serve on a Sub Committee which involves a further 4 x 1.5 hour meetings annually.
