Topglass Estimator, and self-professed city boy, Martin McGowan from North Belfast has completed a very unique fundraising challenge for the company’s annual charity partner, Cancer Focus NI. Martin was challenged by his colleagues to spend a day as an apprentice farm hand on fellow Topglass employee, Karol McCaughan’s farm in Ballycastle. The fundraising team of Martin, Karol, Adrian Dawson and Matthew Crozier completed the challenge on Friday 7th April and have so far raised over £800 in donations.
The action-packed day saw the team really getting their hands dirty with tasks involving shovelling manure, feeding livestock, tagging, registering and bottle-feeding new-born animals, and even delivering a lamb!
Martin said, “Karol really took on the role of taskmaster and made us put in the work! I feel like we got as thorough an induction to farming life as is possible to squeeze into one day, not many people can say they helped birth a lamb! You could even call me an honorary sheep farmer! On a more serious note, I would like to thank everyone for their support and donations. It is all for a very good cause and we are delighted with the total raised!”
Topglass’ Managing Director Mark Mitchell said, “We couldn’t be more proud of Martin and the team on what has been an outstanding fundraising drive. Last year was a challenge health-wise for Martin and it’s really a testament to his resilience and positive outlook that he’s been able to take this on in order to raise funds for others. A huge well done to Martin, Karol, Adrian and Matthew!”
