Tutor of the Year finalist – Maura Quinn recognised for outstanding contribution

Maura Quinn is no stranger to awards, having been a finalist over the past four years for Tutor of the Year from the Institute of Accountants and Bookkeepers (“IAB”) and has won two of those years. This year’s Award ceremony took place at the House of Lords in London on Tuesday 20th June, and Maura was delighted to be named the 2023 runner-up ‘Tutor of the Year’.
Being nominated for Tutor of the Year is no small achievement. To become a finalist, current or recent IAB students must nominate their tutor. The award acknowledges a tutor who has gone above and beyond to support students throughout their studies and help them to gain new skills.
Maura first started in Southern Regional College nineteen years ago lecturing in bookkeeping and payroll. The role continues to give Maura satisfaction as she enjoys helping students to upskill and progress.
Speaking on her fourth consecutive nomination, Maura commented:
“I am surprised, humbled, and very appreciative to be nominated by my students. Having been nominated for the three prior years I was speechless to be nominated and be a finalist for the fourth year in a row. To all my students I want to send a massive thank you for all the nominations. It is not something I take for granted as I only set out to see students succeed in their studies.”
To become a finalist, students must submit reasons for why they believe their tutor should be a finalist; the positive impact the tutor has made; evidence of the tutor’s support and enthusiasm and how the tutor has enabled students to overcome challenges. Maura must have an abundance of enthusiasm as she works in an accounting/bookkeeping role during the day, and tutors students at College in the evening – a very busy working week!
